About Us
The Church of Christ at Cedar Grove is a kind, loving, friendly group of God’s people. Each member is committed to glorifying God through the lives we live, through sharing the gospel with those in the community and around the world, through serving God by serving others, through worshiping God in an acceptable manner, and preaching the truth in love.
The Church at Cedar Grove is a mission minded church. We are currently supporting mission efforts in India, Asia, and various parts of the United States. We are also involved in the support of orphan homes such as North Alabama Christian Children’s Home and Childhaven Orphanage in Cullman, Alabama.
The congregation consists of a good mixture of seniors, middle-aged and young couples who are all actively involved in various church activities. We have a visitor Outreach program, monthly Fellowship Groups and a Sewing Sisters group. Several of the good ladies of the congregation sew clothes for children in Nicaragua each year. We have a number of young people who are very active in the congregation. They regularly participate in the monthly Bible Bowl, get together each month for “Teenagers Night Together” to enjoy a time of devotion and fellowship, and regularly attend CYC.
Christ’s Church
The church should be Christ-centered, shouldn’t it? After all, Jesus promised, “I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). The church belongs to Jesus.
In Acts 20:28, we are told that Jesus purchased the church “with His own blood”. Jesus is the rightful owner of the church.
We are told in Ephesians 1:22 that Jesus is the “head over all things to the church” Jesus is in charge of the church.
Shouldn’t the church be Christ-centered? This is our quest, to be a Christ-centered people through submissive obedience to the will of God (Hebrews 5:9; Matthew 7:21-23). We eagerly invite others to join us in this quest.
You may be asking, “Who are these people?” That is a good question. Allow us to tell you about ourselves.
A Teaching Church
A History of the Cedar Grove Congregation
The Cedar Grove Church of Christ had its beginning in 1939. Brother C. C. Burns preached the first sermon on October 1st of that year. The original building was constructed in a grove of cedar trees on an acre of land donated by Mattie Rose. That building had wings added over the years and continued to serve until the new facility was built in 1987. In 1994, an annex was added that is used for fellowship activities. The basement of the annex serves as a community storm shelter.
Through the years, the congregation has been blessed with men who have faithfully proclaimed God’s Word. Brother Eugene Persell was the first to serve on a full-time basis beginning in 1962. A minister’s home was built in 1965 on property donated by Tonice and Ocie Waddle and an addition to the dwelling was completed in 2000. The current minister is Paul Sain and he began his work with the congregation in December 2015.
